Where do I begin? These busy Pittsburgh weekends are getting to be more than I can handle. From time to time I am going to update you on what weekends look like in our fair City Of Champions. This is primarily for those who say there is nothing to do and nowhere to go. I’m still curious as to what that group of people is looking for.
This past weekend I think there was something for everyone, the young and the seasoned, the financially-challenged to the well-heeled. I like grand openings and there were two that I knew of this past Saturday. If you were riding on Frankstown Avenue in Penn Hills maybe you saw someone in a lobster costume jumping around. If you did, the lobster was there to introduce you to Soul & Sea Restaurant at 10718 Frankstown Ave. I stopped by and picked up a menu on Friday night. They offer shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles for breakfast, there are turkey ribs and signature soul cracker crusted pork chops for dinner. As for sides, there are greens, mac and cheese and corn on the cob and I was told they deliver.
The Cakery Square bakery held its grand opening on Saturday in the Waterfront and the grand opening drew a large crowd. I have never seen that big of a crowd for the opening of a bakery. Thanks to a little face recognition, I was invited to peek in and received a sample cupcake. It was tasty and the baked goods looked great. I will be back.
