The Center That C.A.R.E.S. summer camp – cookies, cupcakes, and fun!

Those in the Hill District with a sweet tooth found just what they wanted —a bake sale, courtesy of the fourth and fifth graders at The Center That C.A.R.E.S. summer camp! New Pittsburgh Courier managing editor Rob Taylor Jr. had to stop by for a few cookies and kid-made cupcakes, as the sale took place outside Wesley AME Zion Church on Centre Ave., July 26. The proceeds from the bake sale were used to fund an end-of-the-summer hotel dayparty, Aug. 2, said Shayla Lyman, an adult supervisor of the camp. The hotel dayparty included cooking, swimming, watching movies, and other activities to build teamwork and friendship. Lyman also noted the camp, which began June 26 and ends August 10, has roughly 150 attendees, with grades K-5 at Wesley, and middle and high schoolers at the Grayson Center. Camp attendees have visited Kennywood, the Pittsburgh Zoo, Skate Zone Family Fun Center in Youngstown, and the Children’s Museum, among other attractions.
