Courier Exclusive: Pittsburgh’s Juneteenth Celebration to be held at Point State Park in 2018

But still Weiland would not lift the fee.
According to the Point State Park website, the $10,000 refundable deposit is standard procedure.
Marshall also noted that Point State Park hosts three major events—the Three Rivers Arts Festival, Three Rivers Regatta and 4th of July Celebration, but no African American events.
“While Blacks make up 30 percent of Pittsburgh’s population, there are no minority events held at PSP,” Marshall wrote.
Marshall’s persistence seems to have paid off. In a Sept. 19 email to the Courier, Marshall gave thanks to the Heinz Endowments, state Sen. Guy Costa, and the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which manages the state parks, for everything working out.
“We told them how the event attracts people from across the state and out of state, and they said they may look at doing something at their other parks, too,” Marshall said.
