PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police are seeking a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old described as a “high-achieving student.”
Police found 16-year-old Jonathan Freeman shot in a home in the city’s Homewood South neighborhood just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
In a statement, the school district says Freeman was a junior at Pittsburgh Allderdice school. The district says he was “known to always have a smile on his face and was very well-liked by all who knew him.”
The Allderdice school is operating on a modified lockdown Thursday in accordance with procedures whenever a student is killed by gun violence.
Counselors are available for students and faculty.
