TWO WORDS. BILL STRICKLAND. What more needs to be said? The chairman emeritus of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, the man who created an empire of positivity, progress and production, evident via the thousands who have benefitted from his leadership and guidance. Strickland’s model was simple; that poor people should be able to enjoy beautiful things, and if so, they would respond in beautiful ways. Among his many awards and designations was being a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, and the White House Council for Community Solutions. He also received the 1996 MacArthur “Genius” Award for leadership and ingenuity in the arts. Bill Strickland, the New Pittsburgh Courier 2019 Men of Excellence Legacy Honoree.
