by Debbie Norrell, Lifestyles Editor

Each year Bon Ami Temple #49 honors those who have contributed so much to Elkdom and to the community. On April 6, at the Penn Hills Comfort Inn, Bon Ami #49—Improved, Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks of the World held their black tie gala.

With the return of Char Biggs (now Char Fields), also known as the emcee that sings, awards were presented to members of Elkdom and the community. Pennsylvania state Rep. Jake Wheatley Jr. received the Advocacy Award. Bon Ami #49 has a tradition of asking someone who knows the awardee to make the presentation. Pennsylvania state Representative Ed Gainey was delighted to present the award to Rep. Wheatley along with Dtr. Theresa Jo Hendricks . The Entrepreneur Award was presented to Terri Lynn Shields, CEO of JADA House International, a faith-based outreach program. Her profile was read by her daughter, Donna Johnson Smith, and the award was presented by Dtr. Gwendolyn Starr.

Elkdom Honorees included: Ms. Elk, Dtr. Lynn D. Butler and Mr. Elk, Bro. Anthony “Tony” Banks. The Good Daughter Award was presented to Dtr. Betty J. Dunbar and the Good Brother Award was presented to Bro. Tyrone Smith. The presentations were made by Marge Eubanks, PDGR and Bro. Michael Ferguson, DDGER. These awards are always a surprise to the recipient and both were pleasantly surprised.

Iris J. Jones, Dt. State President, made closing remarks and wished everyone traveling mercies.
