Try out these hacks (June 19)

It has been a while since I told you about my calendar. The reason is the store that I purchased my yearly desk calendar went out of business in my building. You may be aware that all of the retail stores in Station Square besides one are gone. They were all forced to close to allow UPMC to move a new training facility into the building. There was a Bradley Bookstore in the building that I loved and I used to find the best daily desk calendars. I like ones that make me laugh or allow me to learn something each day. The one that I bought after the New Year is called “Life Hacks.”

There goes that word again, “hacks.” It has taken on a whole new meaning. There are a lot of meanings to the word hack. It could be a cab driver, a hacking cough or to hack something with a knife or sharp implement. Now a hack can be a way to solve a problem or a way to do something. I found some that I thought were pretty interesting and you know I like to share information.

I am always looking for ways to increase my metabolism; here are some foods that can help boost your metabolism: almonds, spinach, cold water, turkey, salmon, hot peppers, oatmeal, blueberries, coffee, ginger, yogurt and green tea. Do you see a trend here? So many diet pills include caffeine. If you have ever tried to lose weight this list should sound familiar, I have seen everything on this list recommended as acceptable when you are trying to shed a few pounds.

Another hack that I saved was this one: wrap a soft tortilla around a crunchy or hard taco shell to hold everything together. Now this sounds like a good idea. I don’t like soft taco shells but this combo sounds like a good solution. I get the crunch and hold in all the goodness at the same time.

Speaking of holding things together, have you ever wondered which glue or adhesive to use to try and glue something together? Check out the site, thistothat.com, it will show you the best adhesive to use when gluing two different materials together. Not only is green tea on the list to boost your metabolism it is also suggested to drop in five to 10 green tea bags when filling your bath. Soaking in this will detoxify your body, relax you and give your skin a bountiful amount of minerals. A brand of green tea was not suggested but I will give this a try and let you know how it works.

Here is something for your emotional health. Sex has been proven to be good for you and can also unblock a stuffy nose, help combat asthma and relieve symptoms of hay fever. Brushing your teeth before sex is a good idea. Did you know if you brush with your non-dominant hand your brain will be forced to work differently? Things that make you go hmmmm.
