Pennsylvania State Police have confirmed that the body of 2-year-old Nalani Johnson, the toddler who was abducted in Penn Hills on Saturday, Aug. 31, was found in a park in Blairsville, Indiana County, on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3.

“We’re working hand-in-hand with the Pennsylvania State Police, the Allegheny County Police and District Attorney’s office…the FBI has also been here and is assisting with this investigation,” said Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty during a press conference Tuesday evening, Sept. 3. “This is a co-operative effort between Allegheny County and Indiana County to try to get the best outcome and determine what happened to this child.”

Dougherty added: “Make no mistake that we are working very hard to ensure that the individuals involved will be brought to justice.”

As more details will be revealed at a later date, what’s known right now is there is one suspect in custody—Sharena I. Nancy, 25. She is charged with kidnapping a minor and other felonies. Police said she was driving a Toyota Yaris on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Penn Hills when she drove off with Nalani, the daughter of Paul Johnson, who had just exited the car.

Paul Johnson, as of Tuesday evening, Sept. 3, has not been arrested.

An AMBER Alert was issued for the abduction, and authorities searched endlessly for Nalani. Authorities arrested Nancy around 7:30 p.m., two and a half hours after the reported abduction on Aug. 31. But neither Nalani nor her car seat were in the car when authorities apprehended Nancy.
