PUTTING THE ‘STYLE’ IN STYLE WEEK—Irene Kreiser and Lydiah Wanyoike

Style Week Pittsburgh returned for its sixth year Aug. 16-18 and kicked off with an awards ceremony at Hotel Indigo on Technology Drive.
On Aug. 16, leaders in fashion, business and the arts were recognized with awards for their achievements. The SWP award winners included: SWP 2019 Fashion Designer—Tereneh Idia; Salon of the Year—Mark Anthony Hair Salon; Fashion Photographer of the Year—Bruce Cowart; Blogger of the Year—Patrice McKenzie; Stylist of the Year—Rachel Vallozi; and the SWP People’s Choice Award chosen by online voting—Imani Jahaan. Guests mixed and mingled and enjoyed beautiful music from vocalist Jemiriye Adeniji.
The weekend concluded with a fashion show on Aug. 17, at the Union Project, where Pittsburgh-based designers ProBantu Style, RubyDawn International, Wille Gee, Lana Neumeyer, Celeta Hickman and Jensine Noir showcased their collections.
On Aug. 18, at Ascender in Downtown Pittsburgh, style and business experts led discussions and shared best practices on growing and launching a business.
Style Week Pittsburgh was founded in 2013 by Wadria Taylor to provide a platform for fashion focused brands to network, exhibit their talents and gain recognition. To date, over 2,000 people have attended a SWP event and more than 100 designers, artists and businesses have participated.
