An Italian Gospel Experience at Eastminster Presbyterian Church

by Jacquelyn McDonald, For New Pittsburgh Courier

Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 250 North Highland Ave., East Liberty, became the place to be on Aug. 13 as the Gospel Connection Choir of Italy presented their cross-cultural Gospel experience. The highly anticipated free event was greeted with much enthusiasm as indicated by the standing-room-only crowd that came to hear them sing. The 40 or so choir members who crossed the pond to the United States were a modest representation of an aggregation that boasts a count of 400 and were welcomed by Eastminster Senior Pastor Paul Roberts. This phenomenal group of singers are known to embrace the artistry of many famous Black American Gospel recording artists who regularly tour and perform throughout Italy. The exchange has produced a unique contemporary sound that is enhancing the expression of worship services in America and Europe.

Pittsburghers also offered exuberant applauses for facilitator and event sponsor, Pastor Keith Moncrief of Kingdom Light Ministries International, who introduced the performances of his assistant pastor, wife and Gospel recording psalmist, Lady Deborah Moncrief, as well as the energetic Mount Ararat Baptist Church music director and event sponsor, Rev. Trini Massie, the soulful Gospel recording vocalist Zanetta Wingfield, Oasis Ministries Incorporated Pastor Kim Lankford, American Idol finalist Rev. Adam Brock and the incomparable Eastminster music staff director, event sponsor and hostess, Rev. Nicole Porter. All have continuously shared in the Mediterranean coastline Gospel tours and have hopes of a return visit from their Italian Gospel music partners.
