Transit Oriented
Communities Project Manager
Port Authority is seeking a Transit Oriented Communities Project Manager to manage projects that maximize the value of Port Authority property, increase system ridership by improving access to transit, benefit service area communities, and generate new revenue and/or reduce agency costs. Provides urban planning, architecture, real estate development, and transportation expertise to advance joint development and other place-based opportunities.
Essential Functions:
•Manages planning projects to advance transit-oriented development. Oversees planning, design, and construction phases of capital projects designed to improve the rider experience and attract real estate investment in transit-oriented development, including the Station Improvement Program. Carries out necessary coordination and collaboration with relevant Authority Divisions and Departments.
•Manages and advises planning projects to advance transit access. Oversees planning, design, and construction phases of internal capital projects designed to improve the rider experience. Carries out necessary coordination and collaboration with relevant internal and external partners. Assists with planning, outreach, and advocacy to advance the implementation of other place-based projects in collaboration or partnership with external agencies.
* Conducts activities to facilitate and execute joint development on Port-Authority-owned land, including planning, outreach, procurement, and project and relationship management. Coordinates with internal staff, other agencies, developers, and communities.
Job requirements include:
•BA/BS in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Architecture, Real Estate, Business Administration, or directly related field from an accredited school. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
•Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in urban planning, architecture, transit-oriented development, community development, and/or real estate.
•Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Understanding of outreach tools and methods.
•Must be willing to take on duties outside of regular business hours for purposes such as, but not limited to, attending internally- and externally-driven public meetings.
Preferred attributes:
•Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Architecture, Real Estate, Business Administration, or directly related field.
•Knowledge of national best practices and local realities regarding land use policy.
•Knowledge of grant-writing, public and private grant sources, and various public incentive programs for development.
•Knowledge of real estate development, including an understanding of the development process, and the ability to evaluate and enhance the financial viability of projects.
Ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
