On Dec. 13, 1958, Annette C. Johnson in Baltimore, Maryland, founded The Pierians. The organization known as The Pierians, a name taken from the word Pieria, which was a region of Ancient Macedonia, one of the earliest seats of the Muses. The organization is devoted to the purpose of promoting and encouraging the study and enjoyment of the fine arts.

On Nov. 9, at the Afro American Music Institute (AAMI) The Pierians Inc. Pittsburgh Chapter presented “A Musical Afternoon” with performances from students of the Afro American Music Institute. The full house enjoyed performances by Tru Dabney and Grace Borneo. Each student received three months of tuition to AAMI from The Pierians.

Karen Price, president, Allison Lee Mann, vice president and Pamela Johnson, AAMI co-founder, hosted the afternoon.
