Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, to speak in Pittsburgh, Feb. 6

The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that the third daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, Ilyasah Shabazz, will be the featured speaker at 1 Hood Media’s “Children of the Movement” community event, Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in East Liberty.

Shabazz has years of experience as a college professor, and more than 20 years of experience as administrator and implementer of cultural and community outreach initiatives. She promotes higher education for at-risk youth, interfaith dialogue to build bridges between cultures for young leaders of the world, and participates on international humanitarian delegations.

Professor Shabazz was a member of the U.S. Interfaith Leadership Delegation to Mali, West Africa, and received a personal letter of acknowledgement for preserving “her father’s proud legacy by working to secure equality in our time and for generations to come,” from former President Barack Obama.

The “Children of the Movement” community conversation also features Jasiri X of 1 Hood Media, Hill Community Development Corporation CEO Marimba Milliones, City of Pittsburgh Group Violence Intervention leader Rev. Cornell Jones, and Poise Foundation COO Karris Jackson.
