National Recording Artist Leela James performs at August Wilson Center

by Courier Newsroom

R&B singer/songwriter Leela James blessed the August Wilson African American Cultural Center stage on Friday, March 6, to a crowd that knew her music all too well.

Some of the more notable songs from James include “Fall For You,” “Tell Me You Love Me,” and “Say That,” which features Anthony Hamilton.

James is nicknamed “Baby Etta,” as she counts Etta James among her vocal heroes, along with Chaka Khan and Al Green.

The Los Angeles native first came onto the national scene in 2006 with her debut album, “A Change is Gonna Come.” She garnered nominations for Outstanding New Artist at the NAACP Image Awards and Best R&B/Soul New Artist of 2008 at the Soul Train Music Awards.
