Carnegie Library physical locations closed, but programs and activities for teens, adults continue online

by Rob Taylor Jr., Courier Staff Writer

Your neighborhood Carnegie Library physical location may be closed, but Suzanne Thinnes, communications manager of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, tells the New Pittsburgh Courier that the library is still open, albeit “virtually.”

But hey, these days, everyone’s online, so if you’re a parent, be sure to share with your children some of the programs and activities that the library is offering during this coronavirus pandemic.

First, follow the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on social media… Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on Facebook, on Twitter @carnegielibrary, on Instagram @carnegielibrary (the Teenspace Instagram is @clpteenspace), and on Youtube at clpvideo.

From there, you’ll be able to keep up with the virtual activities the library is hosting, such as the library’s teen librarians revealing their favorite book titles on Mondays and Wednesdays on the CLP Teenspace Instagram page. Also, teens can vote for their favorite Young Adult book titles on the @clpteenspace Instagram page.

Librarians will hold one-minute reviews on certain books, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 2 p.m. for adults on its Instagram page (@carnegielibrary), and for kids on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m.

On Tuesdays and Fridays at noon, there will be tips and tricks for researching your family tree online. You can find this feature on the library’s Facebook page.

Turning to the library programs, there will be Storytime Shorts, which are entertaining songs, rhymes and early literacy tips, Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. on the library’s Instagram page.

Teen Time @ Home will occur Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. on the @clpteenspace Instagram page.

And if you’re a book lover, there will be lively online discussions with fellow book lovers in a Facebook group called “Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh” on Monday, April 20, at 2 and 7 p.m.

All of the above programs and activities will occur through April 24.

If you need more information, the library’s active phone number is 412-622-3114, or email info@carnegielibrary.org.
