Employees and customers are now required to wear masks.

Allegheny County reported 22  new COVID-19 cases Friday, along with 14 hospitalizations and five deaths. The county has reported 947 total known cases, 176 past and present hospitalizations, and 43 deaths.

Pennsylvania reported 1,706 COVID-19 cases, a 6.2% increase from Thursday, bringing the state’s confirmed caseload to 29,441. The state also reported 49 new deaths, bringing the statewide toll to 756.

Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine in a press release said that although the state is avoiding exponential growth, the caseload and death toll have continued to climb steadily and “now is not the time to become complacent.”

Of the state’s confirmed cases, 4,136 are residents and employees of 321 nursing and personal care facilities. The portion of cases in people under age 19 is less than 3%.

The vast majority of the state’s confirmed cases are in the eastern part of the state. Montgomery, Philadelphia and Lehigh counties each have more than 2,000 cases. Berks, Lancaster, Northampton and Bucks counties each have between 1,000 and 2,000 cases. In Western Pennsylvania, Allegheny is the only county with more than 250 cases.

Allegheny County’s caseload increased by 2.4% Friday, less than half of the state’s increase rate.

A month after Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto declared a state of emergency and ordered the city to shelter in place to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus that was wreaking havoc on cities across the globe, he thanked Pittsburghers for their “tough sacrifices” in his live-streamed address on Thursday. “It hasn’t been easy but it has saved lives, and it’s no time to stop now,” Peduto said.
