Nearly 1,400 new state cases reported, including 21 in Allegheny County

Less than 2% of both the state and Allegheny County populations have been tested.

Pennsylvania reported 1,397 new positive COVID-19 cases Saturday, an approximate 3.6% increase from Friday, as well as 45 new COVID-19-related deaths.

This brings the state’s total caseload to 40,049 and its total deaths to 1,537. There are 7,326 cases of COVID-19 among nursing and personal care home residents and employees across 425 facilities in 40 counties. In those facilities, 942 have died.

Allegheny County reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, representing an approximate 1.8% increase from Friday, as well as three new hospitalizations and two new deaths. This brings the total number of positive cases in the county to 1,198 with 73 total deaths and 211 past and present hospitalizations.

Less than 3% of the county’s cases are in people under the age of 19. Fifty-seven percent of cases are in people 50 and older.

As of Saturday, 55% of Allegheny County’s confirmed cases were in white people, 17% were in Black people, 1% were in Asian people and 26% were unknown.

Pennsylvania has also reported 152,886 total negative cases of COVID-19, and Allegheny County has reported 13,961 total negative cases. This means that less than 2% of both the state and Allegheny County populations have been tested.

The western half of the state still has significantly lower counts of confirmed cases than the eastern half. Allegheny County is the only western county with more than 1,000 cases. Two of Allegheny County’s neighbors, Westmoreland and Beaver counties, have more than 300 cases each. A few counties at or near the state’s northern border have fewer than 10 confirmed cases, but testing in those locations has been minimal.
