Gov. Tom Wolf announced Monday that businesses that provide for outdoor physical activity, such as golf courses, marinas, guided fishing trips and privately owned campgrounds, may reopen on Friday, May 1.

This move, done to promote residents’ physical and mental health, will take effect a week before the state plans to more broadly begin reopening.

These outdoor businesses are still required to follow the state’s life-sustaining business guidelines, and individuals are expected to follow social distancing guidelines such as maintaining a minimum of 6 feet apart, wearing masks and frequently washing hands.

The construction industry is also allowed to resume work May 1 – provided workers wear masks or other face coverings, maintain social distancing, and have access to hand-washing and sanitation stations.

Pennsylvania also released guidance to hospitals and ambulatory surgical facilities on Monday, concerning how to meet the requirements to resume elective surgical procedures. These guidelines, Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said, are in line with guidelines set by groups like the American Hospital Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania reported 119 new COVID-19-related deaths and another 1,214 COVID-19 cases , bringing the totals to 1,716 deaths and 43,264 cases.
