Allegheny County Health Department on Thursday reported 13 new deaths from COVID-19 bringing the total to 165. The county’s daily report did not suggest reasons for this increase. These deaths occurred between May 8 and May 25; all but one are linked to long-term care facilities. The Health Department also reported 13 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 1,965.

Gov. Wolf on Thursday renewed the state’s 90-day emergency disaster declaration, allowing state agencies to utilize additional resources to respond to effects of the coronavirus. The declaration was set to expire on June 4.

Gov. Wolf also announced that he would allow the amended stay-at-home order to expire today, which had still been in effect in counties in the red phase.

“As phased reopening continues and all 67 counties are either in the yellow or green phase by Friday, we will no longer have a stay-at-home order in effect,” Gov. Wolf said in a statement. “I remind Pennsylvanians that yellow means caution and even in the green phase everyone needs to take precautions to keep themselves and their communities healthy.”

“COVID-19 is not behind us,” Levine said.

State health officials on Wednesday, June 3, announced 511 new COVID-19 infections and 75 additional deaths.

This brings the statewide tally to 73,405 cases and 5,742 deaths.

The majority of hospitalizations and deaths are among those age 65 and older.

Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine, in a press conference on June 3, 2020, talked about the return of in-person education. “Masks,” she said, “will be suggested for students.” (Screenshot)
