The Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] reported 19 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the total case count to 2,239 since March 14 when officials announced the first cases in the county. Health officials also announced five additional hospitalizations and one COVID-related death. To date, there have been 179 deaths and 370 past and present hospitalizations.

Pennsylvania reported 510 new COVID-19 cases and 38 additional deaths Tuesday, bringing the statewide case count to 82,696 and 6,464 deaths. Personal care and nursing homes continue to bear the brunt of the infections, with residents and workers representing roughly one in four of all cases in the state. Resident deaths account for 68% of all COVID-related fatalities. Roughly 6,260 of all infections are among healthcare workers.

ACHD Director Dr. Debra Bogen said on Monday she does not believe the June 2 primary or the Black Lives Matter protests have contributed to the jump cases. She and County Executive Rich Fitzgerald pleaded for vigilance, recommending small outdoor gatherings, continued wearing of face masks over the nose and mouth and practicing good hand hygiene. The briefing aired on Facebook Live.
