Officials announced 150 new cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County on Saturday, July 4, a slight decrease from the 177 reported on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 3,430.

There were two new hospitalizations, bringing the total of past and present hospitalizations to 408, and no new deaths reported, leaving the total at 187 (175 confirmed and 12 probable).

This follows a week that saw record-setting single-day increases of COVID-19 in the county; Thursday’s high was 233 new infections.

The ages for the county’s newest cases range from 3 to 87 years old, with 26 being the median age, county officials said Saturday. Of the deaths recorded, 84 was the median age in a range of 23 to 103 years old.

Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen Friday recommended a voluntary stay-at-home protocol for all county residents to try and prevent further spread of the virus.

Pennsylvania reported 634 new cases and just three new deaths Saturday, bringing the statewide case count to 89,375 with 6,749 deaths. On Friday, there were 667 new cases and 34 new deaths.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto advised Pittsburghers on Thursday to “reconsider” any plans for the Fourth of July that include large gatherings or other activities that could further spread COVID-19. The city has also changed its plans this year, with no city-sponsored fireworks show and no mass gatherings at Point State Park or the North Shore. There is no alcohol consumption permitted at bars Downtown, in South Side or anywhere else in the county, due to a countywide order.
