by PublicSource Reporters

The Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] announced 218 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, continuing a triple-digit case streak reported since June 30.

Monday’s cases bring the total count to 3,775 since March 14 when officials announced the first cases in the county. Health officials also announced four additional hospitalizations and one COVID-related fatality.  To date, there have been 188 deaths and 416 past and present hospitalizations.

Healthcare workers account for 432 of the 3,775 cases, or 11% of the county’s infections.

The ages for the county’s newest cases range from 9 months to 95 years old, with 31 being the median age, county officials reported Monday. Of the deaths recorded, 84 was the median age in a range of 23 to 103 years old.

ACHD Director Dr. Debra Bogen on Friday recommended a voluntary stay-at-home protocol for all county residents to try and prevent further spread of the virus.

Pennsylvania surpassed 90,000 infections on Monday. The Pennsylvania Department of Health [DOH] reported 450 new cases and one additional fatality, bringing the statewide case tally to 90,304 and 6,754 deaths. Personal care and nursing homes continue to bear the brunt of the infections, with residents and workers representing nearly one in four of all cases in the state. Resident deaths account for 68% of all COVID-related fatalities.

Roughly 6,824 of all infections are among healthcare workers.

Five Pittsburgh arts organizations – including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra – received a $50,000 grant from CARES Act relief funding to help support staff salaries, artist fees and facility costs, the Wolf administration announced Monday. In total, the National Endowment for the Arts dispersed $1.8 million to 36 organizations in Pennsylvania. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for many organizations, including the arts,” Gov. Tom Wolf said in a press release. “The National Endowment for the Arts recognized the role of the arts in Pennsylvania and the need to help artists and the organizations that support them to inspire creativity and vitality in our commonwealth.” Click here to see the full list.
