The Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] announced 180 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, marking another day of triple-digit daily increases in reported cases.

Allegheny County’s total number of COVID-19 infections now stands at 4,547, and its newest cases are among patients ranging in age from 2 to 91 years old. The median age of the patients is 38.

The county’s death toll increased by one on Friday, now totaling 197. The ages of those who have died range from 23 to 103 and represent a median age of 84. Past and present hospitalizations in the county also rose to 450 overnight, an increase of seven.

The total number of COVID-19 infections statewide reached 93,876 on Friday after the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,009 new cases of COVID-19. About 175 of the reported infections did not occur overnight and instead are due to an increase in private lab results.

The state health department also announced 32 additional deaths Friday, bringing its total number of fatalities to 6,880.

Health officials have noticed a large increase in COVID-19 infections among younger residents, particularly those 19 to 24 years old. The majority of deaths in the state are among residents aged 65 and older.

Nursing homes and personal care facilities in 55 counties, including Allegheny, reported 21,592 total infections within 737 facilities. The facilities have seen 4,699 deaths among residents.

Health care workers in the state account for 7,032 of total cases.

Eviction moratorium extended

Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday announced a new moratorium to evictions and foreclosures for failure to pay. The order extends protection through August, as a prior order was set to expire after July 10. Protection applies to individuals who are not receiving housing aid from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency or from similar federal programs.

The state announced 719 new cases for Thursday and 36 new deaths. The current death toll statewide is 6,848.

As cases spread, the economic harm of COVID-19 also continues.
