A ban on indoor dining in Allegheny County has been rescinded, replaced by an order allowing for indoor dining at restaurants at 25% of capacity.

Under the order, dine-in seating areas at bars, restaurants and private catered events must be closed by 11 p.m., though takeout can continue later.

The order, announced today by the Allegheny County Health Department, prohibits the use of tobacco products, including e-cigarettes at all indoor and outdoor dining facilities. The prohibition also applies to indoor spaces at casinos.

Across the county, indoor events and gathering of more than 25 people are prohibited under the new order. Outdoor events and gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited.

The Allegheny County Department of Health [ACHD] reported 240 new COVID-19 infections Friday, bringing the total case count since March 14 to 5,990 cases.

ACHD also reported one additional COVID-related fatality and 17 new hospitalizations. To date, there have been 206 deaths and 507 past and present hospitalizations.

While the COVID-related fatalities range from 23 to 103 years old with the median age being 84, the most recent death is a 97-year-old person, county health officials said.

On Thursday, Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine and Education Secretary Pedro Rivera jointly announced updated guidance to help Pre-K- 12 schools prepare to reopen for in-person learning. Each school district will solely determine if classes resume in person at school buildings, remotely, or a combination of both options.

“We all agree that opening schools in the fall is important so it is critical to provide schools with the tools they need to do so safely within this global pandemic,” Levine said during a Thursday briefing.
