Allegheny County says mitigation efforts seem to be working; 100 local cases reported Thursday

The Allegheny County Department of Health [ACHD] reported 100 COVID-19 infections Thursday, bringing the total case count since March 14 to 8,612 cases.

The new cases derived from 1,574 tests conducted from July 10 through August 5. Patient ages ranged from 8 months to 101 years, with a median age of 42.

County health officials also reported three new fatalities and 12 additional hospitalizations. The newly reported fatalities occurred between July 30 and Aug. 5.

To date, there have been 251 deaths and 713 past and present hospitalizations in the county.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health [DOH] reported 807 new infections and 38 fatalities Thursday, bringing the statewide case count to 116,521 and 7,282 deaths.

ACHD Director Dr. Debra Bogen said Wednesday during the county’s weekly briefing that mitigation efforts to control viral spread appear to be working, with case counts four of the past five days below 100.
