Allegheny County reports 61 new COVID-19 cases, 4 new hospitalizations and 1 new death

Allegheny County reported 61 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, Aug. 9, bringing the county total to 8,857 reported cases, with four new hospitalizations and one new death reported.

To date, there have been 734 past and present hospitalizations and 259 deaths reported in the county.

The newest reported COVID-19 cases, from 1,195 tests, are among patients ranging in age from 15 to 84 years old with the median age being 49. Positive results are from tests from July 13 to Aug. 8.

The most recent reported fatality was an individual in their 50s who died on Aug. 5 and is “associated with a long-term care facility,” according to the county’s daily update.

The state daily update will be delayed today due to technical updates.

Pennsylvania reported 813 new cases and 16 new deaths Saturday, bringing the statewide case count to 118,092 with 7,313 deaths reported.

Nursing homes and personal care facilities in 61 counties, including Allegheny, reported 24,087 total infections from residents and staff within 876 facilities. The facilities have seen 4,975 deaths. Health care workers in the state account for about 8,620 of total cases.

First Lady Frances Wolf Thursday said the amount of Pennsylvanians who were food insecure before the pandemic, an estimated 1.53 million Pennsylvanians, has risen to more than 2 million residents.
