The Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] reported 76 COVID-19 infections and one additional death on Tuesday. There have been 9,008 cases and 260 deaths related to COVID in the county since mid-March.

The 76 infections reported Tuesday were confirmed out of a collection of 986 test results and are among individuals between the ages of 7 and 94. The person who died was in their 60s.

The county also reported two additional hospitalizations Tuesday, raising the total number of past and present hospitalizations to 737 since March 14.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 828 infections and 35 fatalities in the state on Tuesday. Statewide, 120,281 people have contracted COVID-19 and 7,352 have died. Residents 65 and older make up the majority of deaths and hospitalizations.

The state has seen 24,252 infections among residents and employees of 883 nursing and personal care homes in 61 counties, including Allegheny. Residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities account for 4,983 of the state’s total number of fatalities.

Healthcare workers make up 8,693 of the state’s total number of infections.

Pennsylvania health and education officials on Monday released guidance on how schools should determine if they will hold classes in person or remotely.

The guidance for PreK-12 schools asks local school officials to look at the number of total cases and percent positivity of tests in the most recent week to gauge whether community transmission of COVID-19 is low, medium or substantial.

Allegheny County falls under the “medium” range because it had an incidence rate of about 50 per 100,000 residents in the last week. The state advises that schools in counties with 10 to 100 cases per 100,000 residents use a blend of remote and in-person learning.

County-specific information and a statewide map are available on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard.
