Wolf calls for action to ease mail-in voting; Allegheny County reports 61 new COVID-19 infections Thursday

The Allegheny County Department of Health [ACHD] reported 61 new COVID-19 infections Thursday and one COVID-related fatalities, bringing the county case tally since March 14 to 10,065.

The new cases come from 1,084 tests conducted from June 22 through Aug. 26. The newly reported cases are in individuals aged 16 to 91.

Roughly 46% of the new cases were in people younger than 50.

The one new fatality was an individual in their 80s, who died on August 22 and is associated with a long-term care facility.

To date, there have been 318 deaths and 957 past and present hospitalizations in the county. The county is no longer reporting a specific figure for recent hospitalizations.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health [DOH] reported 620 new infections and 11 fatalities Thursday, bringing the statewide tallies to 131,156 cases and 7,635 deaths.

Anticipating that COVID-19 will disrupt the Nov. 3 general election with a deluge of mail-in ballots, Gov. Tom Wolf urged lawmakers on Thursday to quickly pass his plan to ensure every vote is counted.
