Allegheny County reports 99 new COVID-19 cases, no new deaths

Allegheny County reported 99 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, Aug. 30, bringing the county total to 10,310 reported cases, with no new deaths reported, leaving the total at 310.

The number of reported cases in the county has surpassed 100 only four times this month, last reaching 100 cases on Aug. 20.

The newest count of COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, from 1,255 tests, are among patients ranging in age from 2 to 102 years old with the median age of 42. Ninety-six cases are confirmed and three are probable. All results are from tests from Aug. 24 to 29, except for one test on Aug. 5 that was a transfer from another jurisdiction.

There have been 966 past and present hospitalizations reported in the county.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 670 new cases of COVID-19 and two new deaths on Sunday, bringing the total reported cases statewide to 133,504 with 7,673 deaths.

Personal care and nursing homes continue to bear the brunt of the deaths, with residents representing two-thirds of all COVID-related fatalities in the state.

On Saturday, Pittsburgh Public Schools announced it would push back this year’s start date to Tuesday, Sept. 8, citing delays in devices necessary for students at home with e-learning.
