Trump is running scared, very scared

Dear Editor:

On September 18, Trump was in the news carping there is too much emphasize on the history of American slavery in U.S. public education. And he intends to convene some sort of commission to stop it, when and if he is re-elected.

On the one hand, this is obviously another Trump tactic to distract attention from the major concerns before the nation, such as the coronavirus pandemic, that he has no logical plans to address and tries, in vain, to evade.

But Trump is running scared in 2020. He is terrified. Foremost on his mind is the nightmare that he will be prosecuted if he loses the White House come November 3. So, his recent plan to apparently burn the history books on U.S. slavery is another race card tactic to rally the white electorate that voted for him in 2016.

In 2016, Trump was on the offensive strutting, clowning, and red-necking. He said with a grin he planned to take a long vacation at Mar-A-Lago if he lost his bid for the White House.

Now, he must defend his 45 months of chaos and treachery, and should he lose in 2020 he may end up in the jailhouse.

Between now and November 3 Trump has boxed himself in a corner, and he can only move further and further toward the racist reactionary right.

At some point between now and November 3, terrified and desperate Donald Trump may go to one of his Mar-A-Lago closets, dress up in one of the honorary KKK robes he surely must own, and campaign in it.

Look for that.
