by PublicSource Reporters

Gov. Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine amended their gathering limit orders Tuesday, paving the way for up to 3,750 people at indoor events and 7,500 at outdoor events, provided masks and social distancing can be maintained. The amended orders, which include specific guidelines for venues of different sizes, go into effect on Friday. “We know everyone has sacrificed in many ways and today’s announcement reflects a gradual adjustment to our lives as we learn how we can do things safely until we have a cure, or an effective vaccine is widely available,” Wolf said in a press release.

The Allegheny County Department of Health [ACHD] reported 77 additional COVID- 19 infections Tuesday and four new COVID-related fatalities. The newly reported cases bring the total count since March 14 to 12,854 infections.

The case tally released Tuesday came from 870 tests conducted from Sept. 13 through Oct. 5. The new infections were among patients aged 11 to 90 years old, with the median age being 39. Roughly 61% were people younger than 50.

The newly reported fatalities were in individuals in their 80s and 90s, who died on Sept. 30 and Oct. 4, and were associated with a long-term care facility, which include nursing homes.

To date, the county has had 390 deaths and 1,240 people hospitalized because of the virus.
