Allegheny County Health Department [ACHD] reported 603 new COVID-19 cases and five new deaths Tuesday, bringing the county-wide totals to 29,007 positive cases and 514 deaths.

The majority of these positive cases came from new PCR tests from the past two weeks. Six tests are more than a week old. The county labeled the rest, 137, as probable cases. The new cases range from five months to 97 years-old, with a median age of 43.

The Pennsylvania Health Department reported 5,676 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 180 new deaths Tuesday, bringing the statewide total to 367,140 cases and 10,563 fatalities.

Though most people who died in Pennsylvania were individuals who were 65 or older, individuals of ages 25 to 49 represent the largest share of positive cases, at about 37%.

Personal care and nursing homes continue to endure the most deaths, with residents representing 6,507, about 61.6%, of all COVID-related fatalities in the state.

Healthcare workers constitute approximately 14,655, about 4%, of the state’s total cases.

“In public health, we are very concerned about the potential impact of the Thanksgiving holiday,” Levine said on Monday. “In particular, those people who, despite our advice, traveled. Unfortunately, the airports were often quite crowded.”

Allegheny County Health Director Dr. Debra Bogen echoed Levine’s concerns about rising cases after Thanksgiving.

“I know many people decided to travel over Thanksgiving weekend or spent time with people who don’t live with them, in the face of stern advisories from myself and Dr. Levine,” Bogen said in a statement.

She continued: “I expect to see a rise in new cases of COVID-19 from Thanksgiving and remained concerned that if our cases continue to rise at this rate, it will strain the capacity and staff of our region’s hospitals.”

Bogen said that individuals who traveled should monitor themselves for symptoms, seek testing if they fall ill and avoid others while recovering if they have COVID-19.
