Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Monday his nomination of Dr. Denise Johnson to serve as the state’s physician general.
Johnson received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Before her nomination Johnson was working as the chief medical officer at Meadville Medical Center and serves on the governor’s Commission for Women.
Johnson will serve as the acting physician general until the Senate confirms her nomination.
“I am truly honored to be offered this opportunity to further contribute to the health and wellbeing of Pennsylvanians,’” Johnson said. “I plan to work tirelessly for all and to devote every effort to this goal.”
Allegheny County Health Department on Monday confirmed 278 new COVID-19 cases in the past 48 hours. No new deaths associated with the virus have been reported
The new cases — from positive tests dated March 1 to March 7 — include individuals ranging in age from 1 month to 91 years old, with a median age of 40.
