‘We have signed Coach Tomlin to a three-year contract extension.’

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on its Twitter account, only said one sentence, the one bolded above. But since that tweet was posted at 9:01 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, it’s certainly stirred the pot.

For Mike Tomlin’s supporters, he deserved the extension.

For his critics, this upcoming year should be his last. Or maybe he shouldn’t be the coach at all, his critics contend.

Either way, Tomlin, who’s coached the Steelers since 2007, will be manning the Pittsburgh sidelines until at least the conclusion of the 2024 season, as he already has one year left (2021) on his current deal.
