Here’s more from “Brotha Ash,” Ashley G. Woodson: “Everyone from all over the city came out to pay homage to Roberta Brassell aka Ms. Bert. The celebration was huge with delicious food, D.J., karaoke and many people who showed love to the Black Beauty Lounge. The Black Beauty Lounge is the longest running bar in the Hill District,  setting a record of being the only establishment run by a Black female owner who stood the test of time for 49 years and counting.

In 1972, the lounge was established under the ownership of Roberta Brassell aka Ms. Bert.  This establishment has been honored to build relationships with many community members and stakeholders over the years.  Roberta and her family are truly grateful for almost a half of a century of business in this community.  The love and support of the years has been overwhelming and not taken lightly.”
