This story will begin with what has been said time and time again, but not nearly enough. What a pleasure and privilege it is to be in the company of and granted the opportunity to recognize and honor the man, the myth and the legend… Dr. Cyril H. Wecht.

There are three things you can count on at the Dr. Cyril H. Wecht Western Pa. Humanitarian Awards. First, Dr. Wecht will be there. Second, the honorees will be world class. Third, a good time will be hard by all.

All objectives were met at the 5th annual “CHW” awards held recently at the Savoy Restaurant (and yes, we still roll with the Savoy), recognizing and honoring members of our Western Pa. community that have made an impact on the world, and the stars shined bright at this year’s event.

Legendary and World-Renowned Dr. Cyril Wecht.

The affair honored  Mayor Wilbur Young, Keith A. Morse, Tia McClung White, Roger Humphries, the legendary Hubie Bryant, Mercy Senchur, Chuck Sanders, Robert Hamilton, Monica Ruiz-Caraballo, Morgan Moody, Elizabeth C. Pittinger and Donna John.

Hard to Beat…Literally! Hubie Bryant, left, AKA “The Rabbit,” former world-class hurdler and Pittsburgh Steeler and Charles “Buddy” Allie, world record-holder, masters division, track and field.

Speaking of World-Renowned—The great jazz drummer Roger Humphries is honored.

Needless to say, none of this would have been possible without the support of Senator Jay Costa, Congressman Mike Doyle, Dr. Stan Marks, Attorney William H. Difenderfer, Attorney William Goodrich, Attorney Jack Goodrich, Attorney Shawn T. Flaherty, Chuck Sanders and the Savoy team, Mayor Bill  Peduto, Mayor Pauline Calabrese, Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Attorney Alex Cobb, UPMC, Highmark, Savinis, Kane & Gallucci, Diversified Municipal Services and Bowser Automotive of Monroeville.

Monica Ruix-Caraballo, Executive Director at Casa San Jose.

It goes without saying, what an honor it is to not only partner with Dr. Wecht, but to do so by recognizing such deserving people and at the same time of the releasing of his movie…all we can say is wow times 10!
