Courier appoints Ashley Johnson to Sales Director

The New Pittsburgh Courier is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley Johnson to Sales Director. In her new role, Ashley will focus on growth-related products and services and coordinate with company-wide Real Times Media team on sales initiatives, tools integration, and multi-market opportunities.

Additionally she will develop and implement Courier sales strategies to increase retail, digital, and classified advertising and sponsorship opportunities. She will integrate the RTM360 approach to total marketing solutions into the New Pittsburgh Courier sales strategy.

In making the announcement, Editor and Publisher Rod Doss said, “We are pleased to present this opportunity to Ashley Johnson. She has been a key team member whose passion for the Courier has proven an invaluable asset in transitioning the New Pittsburgh Courier into a more diverse marketing solution for our clients. We need and welcome her talent and expertise.”

Ashley began her career with the Courier in October 2007, as the Editorial Assistant, and in 2010, was promoted to Associate Editor. In this position she was responsible for compiling information for and the writing of “Under Attack By Us,” a monthly series reporting Allegheny County’s homicides and how they impact the community. While under her direction, the series received local and national coverage. In March of 2016, She left the Courier for another position. In August of 2016, she rejoined the Courier staff as the Advertising Coordinator, where she dealt with the Courier’s print and digital display advertising sales. Additionally, she played an intricate role in the planning of special publication sections and major events, such as the Men of Excellence, Women of Excellence and Fab 40 Award ceremonies.

While with the Courier, Ashley has received two Pittsburgh Black Media Federation awards; was a recipient of the Young, Gifted and Black award and a recipient of the Stop the Violence-Pittsburgh’s Celebration of Life award; and several other honors.

In her spare time, Ashley enjoys serving the community. Currently, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh Charter School, the Pitt News Advisory Board and the Spirit of King Awards Ceremony planning committee; is the Membership Chair of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation; and has hosted several community events. She is also a longtime member of the historic Bethel AME Church, in the Hill District.
