Shanelle Jackson enters 12th District Congressional race in Michigan

Former State Representative Shanelle Jackson (D-Detroit) has officially announced her candidacy for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 12th Congressional District.

“Tomorrow night, Rashida Tlaib will foolishly lead the effort to tear down our own Democratic President by giving the ‘retort’ to his State of the Union address. Her arrogance at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history, when U.S. and NATO forces are on the precipice of war with Russia, is beyond disturbing. Tlaib’s extreme disloyalty to her constituents, President Biden and fellow Democrats, will be on full display. She’s making Metro Detroit and the entire Democratic Party look horrible on the world stage. This has to end,” said Jackson.

Jackson was elected State Representative in Northwest Detroit and served in leadership as a Speaker- Pro Tem in the Michigan House. She made history, becoming the youngest African American woman ever elected to the Michigan Legislature, and was widely viewed as a savvy and effective policymaker.

“I’m running for Congress because loud and extreme politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, are threatening to destroy our democracy. Families across the 12th district are caught in the crossfire of these self serving elected officials, and we need help. Our future, and real solutions to the problems plaguing Social Security, Medicare, Jobs, Schools, Roads, Student Debt Relief and even National Security, are being held hostage by a few extremist politicians. We want our future back,” says Jackson.

Jackson believes she is uniquely connected to the communities of the newly drawn 12th district. “I was born, raised and educated, including college and grad school, in Northwest Detroit and the other great cities around the 12th,” said Jackson. “I’ve served these communities as a politically active teenager, State Representative, Deputy Director at MDOT, corporate trailblazer, and beyond. We’re diverse, hardworking, everyday people. We support President Biden, as well as our Police Officers. We don’t hate the companies and small business who provide the jobs that feed our families; and we’re grateful for America’s allies around the world, including Israel,” said Jackson. “The 12th District deserves an effective, commonsense Democrat in Congress, who’ll stand in support of the Biden/Harris agenda while building real consensus to get things done for us, not an extremist politician. I’m ready,” Jackson said.

The 12th Congressional District includes portions of Northwest Detroit as well as Redford, Inkster, Garden City, Livonia, Westland, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Southfield, Lathrup Village, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, and Franklin.
