“Hop” Kendrick: Another election; so what, too many of you may say

by Louis ‘Hop’ Kendrick, For New Pittsburgh Courier

If you failed to vote in the most recent election, WHY? Some of the more frequent excuses are what difference does it make, they are all the same. Democrats and Republicans, is there a real difference? And the latest: “I voted twice for a Black president and he was elected and my situation has not improved.”

My response usually is to ask these persons do you vote race, political party, or for a person who is a current office holder? The time is long overdue that we become sophisticated intelligent voters. How? We must cease making excuses no matter what our financial, educational, religion, and etc. conditions. We must show the same concern about the election of people to the school board or city council as we do about the Steelers or any other sports team.

We spend an unbelievable amount of time and energy discussing Donald Trump and limited amount of effort focusing on the NAACP, church, Pittsburgh School meetings, and OUR FAMILIES. The upcoming election which will determine whom the legislators will be in the 19th and 24th districts is the perfect opportunity for the voters to send a message to the party that they do no own the Black voters.

There must be some person that you respect enough to value their opinion, ask them. If you asked me I would state that if you vote for a person because they have held the position, that’s not good enough.

The most important and overwhelming factors in voting for you and yours are those persons must possess 1. Caring 2. Competency 3. Compassion.
