Eat with your buddies at Cuddy’s

Cuddy’s has been hidden in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh since 2018. The name, Cuddy’s, has family ties.

“Cuddy, it means cousin. It comes from me and my cousin who actually partnered on this with me. We put it together and just called it Cuddy’s because we call each other cuddy,” said owner Charles Nelson.

“I was trying to open a business, trying to be self-employed. It actually started as a candy store…and then people started asking for food, and that’s when we started adding the cooking to it. Years ago, we used to cook, so it was kind of easy to bring it back.”

Specializing in soul food, Cuddy’s carries all the classic staples.

“The main item most people come for is the chicken wings. Chicken wings are a hot seller, but sides such as the mac and cheese, the greens, those are pretty hot sellers as well.”

In addition, Cuddy’s also offers West Indian dishes.

“We had a guy from Trinidad come, and he taught us how to do the jerk chicken, ox tails, and stuff like that,” said Nelson.

Cuddy’s has created a unique lane for itself by being open later to satisfy those late-night cravings.
“On the weekends, we’re here till like 2-3 in the morning. There’s no one delivering the kind of food we’re selling that late.”

Looking towards the future, Cuddy’s is hoping to grow and branch out to another city. As the holiday season approaches, they also offer a catering menu in addition to their daily and weekly specials.

Regardless of when or how often customers order, Nelson says Cuddy’s is dependable and will continue to deliver great service at a great rate.

“We’re here for the neighborhood. You know, whenever you stop, we’re gonna give you good food at an affordable price, and we’re in a great location.”
