Letter to the Editor: The emperor has no new clothes (by Cynthia Baldwin)

CYNTHIA A. BALDWIN

Dear Editor:

Are we willing to take the chance and not vote in the upcoming presidential election?

In one of my favorite children’s stories, “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” it takes a child to tell the truth—that the emperor has no new clothes. The emperor has been fooled by some unscrupulous weavers into believing that he is wearing clothes made of a fabric that is invisible to anyone who is stupid or unfit for his position. Since no one wanted to be thought stupid or unfit for his position, everyone, including the emperor, pretended he could see the emperor’s new clothes. Who will be brave enough to tell the truth during this election?

The Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln; it is the party of Trump. And who is Trump—a disrespecter and assaulter of women, a liar, and a felon. And that’s not the worst. He is an admirer of dictators and vows to be a dictator, at least “for a day.” Listen and believe him when he tells his supporters this about voting: “You won’t have to do it anymore. … You got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again. We’ll have it fixed so good, you’re not going to have to vote..”

He plans to take away a sacred right that people have even died to obtain—the right to vote.

He already has made every effort to change the federal judiciary including the Supreme Court into his personal Court system. Instead of viewing Bill Barr as the United States’ Attorney General, he viewed him as his personal attorney. When Trump was president, he viewed people within his administration who did not agree with him as disloyal and as enemies. He has also vowed revenge to all who have not done as he wanted or commanded.

If elected, Trump will be an emperor, and he is hoping that no one will reveal that he is wearing the same old clothes.

We can’t afford to not vote.
