THE NEW PITTSBURGH COURIER ENDORSES KAMALA HARRIS FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. ELECTION DAY IS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2024.

When Barack Obama went up against John McCain for the U.S. Presidency in the 2008 election following Republican George W. Bush’s two-term bid, at least Obama’s opponent had some dignity, some respect about himself.

COURIER EDITORIAL

John McCain was a war hero, who survived being a prisoner of war in Vietnam; a longtime senator from Arizona who had many supporters and admirers.

Still, African Americans across the country went to the polls and overwhelmingly voted for Obama, making him the first Black U.S. President in history.

Fast forward to now. Another Black person, this time, a woman, Kamala Harris, who is the vice president, is running for the presidency against a man who, unlike McCain, has no decorated past or present, seemingly no respect for women, will talk trash on someone in a hot second, and wants to create policies that would disproportionately hurt Black people and other minorities.

You would think that there’s no way Kamala Harris could lose, right?

Think again. The New Pittsburgh Courier—as a newspaper, we’re realists. We’ve seen the polls. Donald Trump, Harris’ Republican contender, is neck-and-neck with Har ris in the polls to see who will win Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, and other swing states. When Michelle Obama gets on stage and asks, “How is it even this close?” …We agree. How can it be this close? How can there be rumblings that some African American men want to “sit out” this election, or even vote for someone as immoral and uncouth as Trump? And then when President Obama challenges Black men not to sit out the election and vote for a Black woman, Obama gets thrown into the fire by some Black men on social media.

KAMALA HARRIS COULD MAKE HISTORY AS THE FIRST WOMAN PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY.

Hopefully, Black people in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the rest of Pennsylvania aren’t subscribing to that “Vote for Trump” nonsense. Hopefully, Black people in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and the rest of Pennsylvania know that the choice for president is clear. During the Civil Rights Movement and earlier, we as Black people had to unite against the hate, against the racism, against the discrimination, against being given only the scraps. We believed in a higher power, God almighty, to bring us better days. We learned to do the right thing, the moral thing, the sensible thing, in spite of being spit on and looked over.

Kamala Harris stands for morality. She stands for what’s right. Donald Trump stands for immorality. He stands for what’s wrong.

Some Black people try to challenge Harris and ask, “What have you ever done for Black people?”

We ask this question…Donald Trump was in the presidency for four years….we already know he did nothing for Black people.

Already, before even becoming president, Kamala Harris has inspired a generation of young Black girls to show that they, too, could become vice president of the United States. Young Black girls are watching the attack ads on her by Trump and other Republican PACs, and still, Kamala Harris, like she did at the candidates’ only debate on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia, brushed it off and took Trump on right to his face.

Kamala Harris is the perfect example of a professional Black woman. She chose to go to Howard University, an HBCU. She chose to join the Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha. She chose a life of public service, and became the first woman District Attorney in San Francisco’s history, and then became Attorney General of the state of California.

Some of you Black men are afraid of a Black woman with a backbone. Harris is very mentally strong. Harris doesn’t let the naysayers and haters get to her. Harris is confident. Harris is secure within herself.

On the other hand, tell Trump that people leave his rallies early, and he’ll go off on a 20-minute tangent, and then say things like immigrants are eating the dogs…(and the cats…)

To the African Americans in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Pennsylvania, and to everyone else, the choice is clear. Donald Trump is simply unfit to be a president, let alone the leader of his own household. Kamala Harris is a born leader. People forget…she’s the current vice president! She has been side-by-side with President Joe Biden on a number of key decisions, met many of the world’s leaders, and understands what the presidency is like.

Trump had his chance, and there’s a reason the American people voted him out in 2020.

Keep him away from the White House. Keep insanity away from the White House.

The New Pittsburgh Courier strongly endorses Kamala Harris for president of the United States. Don’t sit this one out. Vote on or before November 5. Now is not the time for us to go backward. We as a people, we’re moving forward, and no one will stop us.
