On January 20, 2025, Mr. Trump, with a pen stroke, entered an Executive Order entitled “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing.”
In the order, Mr. Trump calls DEI “illegal and immoral discrimination programs” and states “That ends today. Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect, and to expending precious taxpayer resources only on making America great.”
How hypocritical. First, the DEI programs have not been declared illegal and it is only Mr. Trump’s opinion that these programs are immoral.
Secondly, Mr. Trump wants to end programs that give all citizens equal opportunity because of the cost, but will spend an estimated $25-45 million on a military parade for his 79th birthday.
Mr. Trump is touting that Qatar is giving him a “free” plane which a former Air Force acquisitions chief has estimated will cost hundreds of millions of dollars to retrofit with the extensive advanced security and communications capabilities that it requires. So, it appears that as long as our American taxes are being spent on him or for him, Mr. Trump doesn’t care how much it costs.
The beginnings of DEI programming occurred when the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed discrimination in employment, voting, and use of public facilities based on protected characteristics including race, color, religion, sex, and national origin, was passed. It has been expanded by legislation and litigation in some states to include sexual orientation and disability.
Affirmative action was the next step and refers to policies and procedures which purpose is to ensure equal opportunities for members of historically disadvantaged groups including racial and ethnic minorities, women and people with disabilities.
These acts and policies were passed and implemented to rid the United States of immoral practices, not to institute them. There are no preferences inherent in these laws and policies since the purpose is just to ensure that all United States citizens have the same opportunities available to them.
If Mr. Trump views diversity, equity, and inclusion as illegal and immoral, then he must be in favor of conformity, bias, and exclusion.
There is evidence to that effect.
The Trump administration wants to end the temporary humanitarian protection for migrants with legal status from Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, but, by executive order, allow Afrikaners (White South Africans descended primarily from Dutch settlers) into the United States claiming they have been victims of racial discrimination and genocide of which there is no evidence and which the South African government vehemently denies.
When South African President Ramaphosa visited the White House, Mr. Trump again tried to ambush and embarrass him as he had President Zelenskiyy, but Mr. Ramaphosa was calm and prepared for the lies and falsely attributed videos.
White South African golfers Ernie Els and Retief Goosen as well as the White South African Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen and Johann Rupert, a White billionaire South African businessman attended with President Ramaphosa.
True to form, Mr. Trump allowed the White South Africans to speak, while repeatedly interrupting President Ramaphosa.
To be clear, Afrikaners didn’t request refugee status; it was offered to them. Everyone can see what the difference is.
To some extent, it appears that Mr. Trump believes in that old racist saying that ends if you are White, you’re all right. Does Mr. Trump not realize that we are a nation of immigrants in the United States, including his family, and that the first inhabitants, native Americans, did not have white skin? Does Mr. Trump not realize that God gave us all talents necessary to make this country great, no matter what package He put us in?
Mr. Trump, the United States is great because it is diverse, and our country will only be greater when it includes equity, and inclusion. What makes this country great is DEI. CBE (Conformity, bias, and exclusion) will lead to mediocrity.
