Bynums Creative Institute (a division of Bynums Marketing & Communications, Inc.), invited students ages 6 through 18 to participate in the 20th annual African American History Essay Contest. The competition is held each year in celebration of Black History Month, and it is designed to help students of all races learn about African-Americans who have made positive contributions to society. The contest was officially launched Feb. 28.
“UPMC Health plan agreed to co-sponsor this years contest. The program was going to be suspended this year for lack of sponsors. However the numerous calls and emails from students, parents and teachers helped decide to keep it going,” stated Russell Bynum, president of Bynums Marketing and Communications, Inc. and creator of the program.
“I greatly appreciate UPMC’s involvement. The purpose of this event is to celebrate and learn about African American History and to encourage understanding among all Americans,” said Kathy Bynum, vice president of Bynums Marketing.
