Plaxico Burress embracing role of Steelers elder statesman

(AP Photo/Keith Srakocic) by Will Graves AP Sports Writer LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Plaxico Burress turns 36 next Monday, an age the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver jokes makes him "grandpa" in a locker room filled with kids who weren't even playing Pop Warner when Burress made his NFL debut nine months after the turn of the millennium. Look closely enough at Burress' still impossibly youthful face and you'll see a fleck or two of gray in his chin stubble. It's only when Burress talks that the years — and the perspective they provide — become evident. In the twilight of a career that remains enigmatic at best and erratic at worst, this is Burress' last stand. And he knows it. Even more, he's OK with it.

(AP Photo/Lloyd family via the Boston Bandits ) by Bridget Murphy BOSTON (AP) — A body was found, search warrants were issued, investigators conducted interviews — all the signs of an impending police action were in place by week's end. Still the family of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd waited for answers. A jogger found Lloyd's body in an industrial park Monday, a mile from the home of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Family members said Friday the two men were friends who were together the night Lloyd died. They said Lloyd had been dating Hernandez's fiancee's sister for about two years. Police have searched in and around Hernandez's sprawling home in North Attleborough, not far from where the Patriots practice. Hernandez's attorney Michael Fee has acknowledged media reports about the state police search of Hernandez's home but said he wouldn't have any comment on it.

Steelers WR Wallace focused on efforts, not boos

by Will GravesAP Sports Writer PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Wallace heard the boos. And the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver knew it didn't have as much to do with the pass that had just clanged off his hands as with the expectations — self-imposed or otherwise — he just can't seem to meet.
