Steelers offense needs work after preseason loss

Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin leads his troops into battle against the New York Giants on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in Pittsburgh. (Courier Photo/Julio Torres) by Will GravesAP Sports Writer PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin isn't about to blame his team's lethargic 18-13 loss to the New York Giants in the preseason opener on the calendar. Tomlin knows the Steelers haven't played a game in nearly eight months. He also doesn't care. The way he figures it, committing seven penalties Saturday night, enduring couple of Keystone Kops moments on special teams and generating little offense has little to do with rust.

Cooper has been sent away from the team to get help with his issues, something the player and the team agreed upon. "His status with us is not in question."

(AP Photo/Keith Srakocic) PITTSBURGH (AP) — Maurkice Pouncey is eager to talk about something other than his questionable choices in headwear. Like his job, mostly. The Pittsburgh Steelers center began training camp by apologizing again on Friday for being pictured wearing a baseball cap earlier this month supporting former college teammate Aaron Hernandez. Pouncey and twin brother Mike — who played with Hernandez at Florida — wore hats that read "Free Hernandez" during their co-birthday party in Miami. Hernandez is currently in jail in Massachusetts facing a murder charge in the death of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. He has pleaded not guilty. No matter the context of the picture, Pouncey understands it was a poor choice.

(AP Photo/Keith Srakocic) Landry Jones was a big time college quarterback, no question about it. In his time at Oklahoma he threw for over 16,000 yards and over 100 touchdowns as a four year starter. He has the size, 6 ft. 4", 229lbs and he has a rocket arm. The Steelers made him a 4th round pick indicating they saw something they liked in him. The question everyone has is what will his roll be this year and beyond with this organization?
