RACE
The Carnegie Museum of Natural History presents “RACE: Are We So Different?’ at 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. This exhibition looks at the ways science and human-history have intersected to form our understanding and beliefs about race. It explores the history of the idea of race, the changing role of science in that history and so much more. The exhibit will be displayed through Oct. 27. Blues BBQ Fundraiser
Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society presents its annual Blues BBQ Fundraiser featuring Ernie Hawkins and his band at 8 p.m. at The Roots Cellar, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, 1047 Shady Ave., Shadyside. Ernie Hawkins is an internationally-renown acoustic guitar virtuoso, and plays and sings blues, ragtime and gospel. Comfort Zone
The Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company presents “Comfort Zone” at 3 p.m. at 937 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This play by Marlon Erik Youngblood and directed by Mark Whitehead is a gritty urban tale that examines the tragic consequences of violence affecting our families and community through a thought provoking theatre experience. BlackStar Film Festival
The Kelly Strayhorn Theater presents the BlackStar Film Festival-Pittsburgh Edition from 1-11 p.m. at 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. KST will share films from the renowned Philadelphia festival, a festival that illuminates the global Black experience through films by and about people of African decent. The day-long event will include performances, films, a marketplace by the Ujamaa Collective and music by DJ Nate Da Phat Barber.
