Allderdice falls to MLK in semis, Aliquippa advances in PIAA

Juiced by a 14-1 run in the third quarter—and shrugging off a pair of ties in the final minutes—Allderdice churned out a 65-58 victory over the Hansburg Cougars in the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals at the Altoona Field House. Ramon Creighton collected 21 points—including 17 after the halftime break—while James Jackson checked in with 18 and his identical twin, Tim Jackson, added 10 as Buddy Valinsky’s Pittsburgh City League champs (26-2) moved into the state semifinals for the first time since 1987.
They faced off against Martin Luther King (22-8) in the semi-finals March 17.  Martin Luther King fell behind briefly but pulled away for a 48-35 victory Tuesday night at Chambersburg High School.
Undefeated Aliquippa  (29-0) stayed alive with lopsided wins, 83-49 over Central Cambria and 72-48 over West Middlesex.  Aliquippa could win its first state championship since 1997  in the Class AA playoffs on Saturday.
