:10—My phone was about to start ringing off the hook big time Saturday night, but Notre Dame couldn’t hold onto the 3 point lead they had. I’ve been calling for the fall of Kentucky for the past three weeks and for no good reason. It’s the whole entitlement thing I have a problem with I guess. I still say they take a hit before it’s all done. Of course I’ve been wrong “once” before!
:09—Speaking of Kentucky, and I was…if I can just get you “Oliver grads” to stay focused for a minute, do these names ring a bell: Willie Cager, David Lattin, Nevil Shed, Harry Flournoy, Orster Artis, Willie Worsley and Bobby Joe Hill? If you know your basketball as well as you think, then by now you’re being reminded of members of the team that had the greatest upset in NCAA history. Ding, Ding! You’re right. These Black men who were joined by Jerry Armstrong and several other White players and the recruiting and coaching genius of Don Haskins upset Adolph Rupp and the seemingly invincible Kentucky Wildcats in 1966. The University of Texas El Paso dared to start five Black players and play only seven total Black players for the first time in NCAA history. They stood tall against all odds and sent the “Cats” packing while changing the basketball world forever…but of course you knew all that…right?
