Finding Alternative Funding
    MAY 21—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center will host “Finding Alternative Funding for Your Small Business: Local Lenders Showcase” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, William Pitt Union Assembly Room, Fifth Avenue, Oakland. This seminar will help individuals who are trying to identify new sources of capital to grow or start their business and introduce them to some of the local non-bank lenders in the region. Lunch and Learn Series
    MAY 21— The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “How to Start and Grow Your Business Using A to Z Databases.” Christine Smailys, of A to Z Databases, will teach attendees how to use A to Z Databases to start and grow one’s business. Lunch and Learn Series
    MAY 28— The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “Know Your Options: Different Types of Businesses.” Joyce Pearl and Steve Cohen, both of SCORE, will discuss the various business models, including home –based, nonprofit, online and franchises. Members’ Mixer
    MAY 28—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its Members’ Mixer from 5-7 p.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. This is an opportunity to meet associate member Al Merritt and learn how Hosanna House reaches out to assist and impact individuals and families in our community. Make It Happen
    MAY 28—The University of Pittsburgh’s University Center for Social and Urban Research, Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence and Small Business Development Center will host  “Make It Happen in the Mon Valley” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Homestead Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 510 E. 10th Ave., Munhall. This seminar is designed to help determine if starting a business is right for an individual and how to begin searching for the right business.
Members’ Mixer
    JUNE 4—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence and the Women President’s Organization will host its Members’ Mixer from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Larrimor’s, 249 Fifth Ave., Downtown. The event will feature Jack Mitchell of the Wall Street Journal. Attendees are asked to bring business cards and members are asked to wear their pins.
